CATHEDRALS OF ENGLAND

Our vacation this year we went to England where we had the opportunity to visit a number of their fabulous cathedrals and churches. It is amazing to walk through these beautiful buildings dating back nearly one thousand years. To me they represent mankind's efforts to convey the glory of God and provide an overwhelming place to worship. They preserve a craftsmanship and artistic work we Americans rarely experience in our churches.

I was deeply moved as I noticed in some of them how the stones of the steps were worn from the footsteps and knees of the thousands of people who had been there before me. A few times we had the chance to hear someone practicing on the magnificent organs and the choirs singing. Just being in these cathedrals and churches became a worship experience.

While many of these buildings have been carefully preserved we also saw some which where in ruins and one was for sale. Even these buildings still represent mankind's efforts to reach out to God. We spent a night across from the ruins of Tintern Wye Abby in Wales and it was beautifully illuminated in the evening giving it a ghostly presents.
